OUR HISTORY

ACES was started in 1997 by Pam Robinson of Long Island, N.Y., and Hank Glamann of Houston, as a group to foster support and awareness of copy editors, primarily in newspapers. Their idea grew from responses surveyed by the American Society of News Editors in 1996. Our first conference was in Chapel Hill, N.C., not long after. Since then, we’ve hosted yearly national conferences and several other regional workshops and boot camps to train, reinforce and acknowledge solid copy editing skills. We’ve also grown into a place where editors from newspapers and beyond can meet like-minded colleagues and network for job advancement, shared training, troubleshooting and, what we like best, camaraderie.
